October 2016 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Honored Worker of Labor of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Khamdam Usmanov. Khamdam Usmanov is one of the world's leading specialists in the field of macromolecular chemistry, who laid the foundation for the development of polymer chemistry in Uzbekistan, and his scientific work made an invaluable contribution to world science.
Khamdam Usmanov was born on October 16, 1916 in Tashkent. In 1932, after graduating from high school, he entered the Faculty of Chemistry of the Central Asian State University. In 1937, Khamdam Usmanov graduated from the university with honors and got a job as an assistant at the Faculty of Chemistry, during which he conducted scientific research. In 1937, his first scientific article was published on the topic "Physicochemical analysis of acetone-phenol, acetonenitrobenzene two-liquid systems".
In 1941, Khamdam Usmanov defended his dissertation on the topic "Decomposition potential of aqueous solutions of salts" for the degree of candidate of chemical sciences.
During the Great Patriotic War, Khamdam Usmanov participated in battles in the ranks of the Soviet Army, contributing to the defeat of fascism in Europe.
In 1946, Khamdam Usmanov was appointed associate professor at the Department of Physical Chemistry of the SGAU. He taught students in chemical thermodynamics, physical chemistry, and began scientific research on the chemistry of polymers.
The study of cellulose chemistry and physics is of great economic importance in Uzbekistan. During his tenure as an associate professor, Khamdam Usmanov was engaged in cotton fiber and conducted scientific work in this area.
In 1948, Khamdam Usmanov continued his scientific activities at the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and was engaged in doctoral studies.
In 1950, Khamdam Usmanov founded the first natural polymers laboratory in Uzbekistan.
Academician V.A. Kargin played a major role in Khamdam Usmanov's scientific interests, who later became Khamdam Usmanov's mentor.
Khamdam Usmanov and his colleagues studied the physicochemical, mechanical and operational properties of natural and hydrocellulose fibers and showed ways to improve these changes.
In 1954, Khamdam Usmanov defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Reasons for differences in the physicochemical properties of cotton and hydrocellulose fibers."
In 1955, Khamdam Usmanov received the title of professor.
In 1954, he began to head the Department of Physical Chemistry of the SGAU.
In 1956, Khamdam Usmanov became an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
Khamdam Usmanov's scientific work has been recognized not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the international scientific community. Khamdam Usmanov has participated in scientific symposia and presented his scientific work in many foreign countries.
